Caring for your North Shore Knife

Thank you for purchasing my hand crafted knives for the kitchen, camp or field. Remember a sharp knife is a safe knife!

Sharpen your knife form time to time with a good Arkansas wet stone or Diamond stone.

If your knife is stainless or damascus or high carbon do NOT put it in the dishwasher as it will de-temper your steel or damage the wood or acrylic handle.

The high carbon steel will maintain a great edge and be easy to sharpen. However it can stain  and rust if not wiped dry after washing or contacting blood or food. Lightly oil it from time to  time with food safe oil, butcher block oil or coconut oil, or even light machine oil. Wipe the oil off before cutting food.

Your acrylic handle will require little care other than washing and drying by hand. Remember do not put it in the dishwasher.

Any wood handle will from time to time benefit from a little fine or extra fine steel wool sanding  and coating with tung oil or some oil wood finish.

The sheath can be coated from time to time with a leather oil or wax. Sno-Seal is a good wax  applied over some indirect heat like a stove burner. Do not store high carbon steel blades in your sheath for long periods as it could encourage rust.

Your blade handle construction joint is guaranteed for life so if any de-lamination occurs let me know and I will fix it at no cost to you.
